Viola Pacini is a PhD student in the History and Cultures Department at the University of Bologna. Previously, after obtaining a BA and an MA at the University for Foreigners of Siena, she obtained an MA in History and Oriental Studies at the University of Bologna with a dissertation on debt bondage in the Gulf pearling industry. In the meantime, she also studied at the University of Nizwa (Arabic language course), the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) in Paris (Erasmus), and the Institute of Arab & Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter (PhD visiting). Her research is focused on the cases of enslavement and slave trade in the Arabian Peninsula during the early 20th century.
